4 Ways to Stay Calm and Focused During Chiropractic Training
[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.0.98″ background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left” border_style=”solid”]
With exams just around the corner, some students might be finding it more challenging to manage the increased workload of assignments and upcoming tests while keeping calm and focused. Fortunately, there are some tried and tested ways that can help you relax during busy times. Whether you need a few stress-busting tips to help you navigate exam time or want to add a few healthy habits to your regular routine, here are four ways to stay more focused.
Try Simple Breathing Exercises During You Chiropractor Training
One simple but effective way to lower your stress level is by deep breathing. Filling your lungs to the diaphragm’s full range of motion maximizes the oxygenated air your body is receiving, helping lower your heart rate, reduce muscle tension and lower blood pressure.
There are several quick and easy breathing techniques that students can try to increase relaxation. One method is breathing in for a slow count of four and breathing out an equal amount, all through the nose to add a naturally slow to the breath. Increase the depth of breathing to six or eight seconds as you become more relaxed to calm the nervous system, reduce stress levels and increase focus.
An effective yogi favorite is breathing through one nostril while holding the other closed, holding the breath, then breathing out through the other nostril for a count of 15 each. Then do the same process starting with the other nostril. This is said to bring calm and balance while uniting the right and left sides of the brain – perfect for chiropractic students!
Take Some Time to Laugh Out Loud While You Complete Your Chiropractic Degree
Completing your chiropractic training at a university with a family atmosphere helps you feel connected to other students and makes it easier to meet new people. And while making friends at your chiropractic college is its own reward, chatting with friends also offers a few important stress-busting benefits.
Talking with friends is a great way to de-stress, especially if you use that time to vent or share a funny story. In fact, laughter is one of the best ways to help relieve pent-up stress.
A good laugh decreases levels of stress hormones like cortisol while boosting levels of dopamine. It helps relieve muscle tension and can leave you feeling more positive and ready to tackle coursework.
A Healthy Diet and Plenty of Sleep Can Keep Your Body Healthy and Stress-Free
When your body feels physically stressed from lack of sleep, dehydration or poor eating habits, you become more prone to outside stressors like upcoming tests and assignments.
That’s why it’s important to keep healthy habits – even when approaching exams leave you pressed for time.
To stay healthy while on the go try opting for foods made with fresh, local ingredients like the dishes at Sherman’s on-campus cafe, Farmer’s Table. Snack on apples, bananas, and other fruit instead of grabbing a bag of chips. And remember to drink plenty of water instead of sugary sodas and sweet teas.
