New Zealand College of Chiropractic President Phil McMaster, D.C., A.C.P., recently received the Service to the Profession Award from Sherman College of Chiropractic in Spartanburg, SC, USA, in recognition of his contributions, time and commitment to the chiropractic profession, the public and the college. The Service to the Profession Award is given to an individual who has demonstrated extraordinary, unselfish and noteworthy service to the chiropractic profession.
Before Sherman’s vision was articulated as bringing chiropractic to the world and “Adjusting the World for a Better Future,” Dr. Phil McMaster took what he learned at Sherman College back to his homeland of New Zealand on the other side of the world. Dr. McMaster and a group of other dedicated individuals helped launch the New Zealand College of Chiropractic, which opened in 1994. He served as chair of the philosophy department and has taught at the college since its inception. At the same time, he has run a successful full-time practice.
Dr. McMaster eagerly took on leadership roles to advance the profession. He has served for many years on the Board of the New Zealand Chiropractors’ Association and as trustee and chairman of the New Zealand Chiropractic Education Trust.
While serving as interim president of the New Zealand College in 2002-2003, he completely refined the chiropractic program for accreditation in a time of crisis. Not surprisingly, the college turned to him again and named him president in 2013, a position he still holds. As such he assures that his part of the world has a principled chiropractic institution for students to learn the philosophy, art, and science of the profession.
Sherman College named its 2016 award recipients April 28-30 as part of Lyceum, an annual continuing education and homecoming event attended by hundreds of chiropractors and students throughout the U.S. and internationally. Lyceum is held on the college’s campus in Spartanburg, SC, and involves three days of seminars, special events, and other programs.
