[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.17.6″]
Former trustee and longtime Sherman College supporter Philip J. “Phil” Sorota, D.C., of Louisville, KY, passed away at home on October 30, 2018. He was 73 years old.
Dr. Sorota served on the Sherman College Board of Trustees from 2002-2008 and supported the college for many years through his service, philanthropic gifts, and his family’s dedicated presence at Lyceum. He was a lifetime Sherman College Regent donor. His daughter, Hannah Sorota Hall, and her husband, Dan Hall, are both 2005 Sherman College graduates.
Sherman College founder Thomas A. Gelardi, D.C., said he feels fortunate to have called Dr. Sorota a colleague and friend. “Dr. Phil Sorota holds a special place in my heart and in the history of Sherman College,” he shared.
“Dr. Sorota became an early and lifetime supporter of Sherman because the vertebral subluxation was central to him and Sherman. As a member of Sherman’s Board of Trustees, he contributed much to the college’s advancement. Phil’s intellect, love for family, patients, chiropractic, Sherman College, and education in general, made him most interesting and inspiring. He will always be with us.”
Dr. Sorota was born May 12, 1945 in Lowell, MA, and grew up in Andover. Shortly after graduating from high school, he entered the United States Army and was sent to Vietnam as part of the 11th Armored Cavalry, where he earned a Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars while serving his country.
He graduated from Palmer Chiropractic College in 1975 and established Sorota & Sorota Chiropractic Office with late wife Karen R. Sorota, to whom he was married for 42 years. Together, they devoted themselves to the health of their community and serving those in need. He was an active member of Southeast Christian Church and regularly volunteered with Boy Scouts of America.
The couple are survived by their three children, Hannah Sorota Hall, D.C., ’05 (Dan), Noah Sorota (Esther) and Nathan Sorota (Elizabeth); three siblings, Diane Sorota, Peter Sorota (Melisa), Stephen Sorota; and four grandchildren, Lucy Sorota, Philippa Sorota, Georgina Sorota, and Victoria Hall.
