Karen Brower Rhodes, M.B.A., of Inman, SC, has been named Chiropractic Advocate of the Year by Sherman College of Chiropractic in appreciation of her outstanding contributions, time and commitment to the chiropractic profession and the college. The Chiropractic Advocate of the Year Award is given to a non-chiropractor who has contributed to the advancement of Sherman College and the chiropractic profession in a significant and noteworthy manner.
“Karen Rhodes is a staunch supporter of Sherman College,” said Sherman College President Edwin Cordero, D.C. “Promoting chiropractic is not just her job but her passion. Her contributions to the profession are much appreciated, and this award is well deserved.”
Rhodes joined Sherman College in 2000 as communications manager and was later promoted to director of public relations. She is responsible for all public relations, marketing and communications initiatives to advance the college. She has established herself as a key member of the staff at Sherman College and continues to develop her skills in the field through her dedication to professional development and leadership activities. Her work for the college has earned local and national recognition, with five projects earning second place, third place and honorable mention in the National Federation of Press Women Communications Contest this year alone.
Karen holds a bachelor’s degree in communication studies from Gardner-Webb University, where she later returned to complete her master’s in business administration with an emphasis on health care management. She is a 2015 graduate of Leadership Spartanburg, a Chamber of Commerce program designed to identify and train future community leaders, and she is an active member of its alumni association and other Spartanburg Chamber programs. Sherman recognized her in 2005 with the Service to Sherman College Award, and she has been named Communicator of Achievement by Media Women of South Carolina. She and her husband, Zach, have a 13-year-old daughter, Laney.
Sherman College named its 2019 award recipients in May as part of Lyceum, an annual continuing education and homecoming event attended by hundreds of chiropractors and students throughout the U.S. and internationally. Lyceum is held each spring in Spartanburg, SC, and involves three days of seminars, special events and other programs; this year approximately 700 were in attendance.
