Sherman College of Chiropractic honored alumni, chiropractors, and supporters during its 51st Lyceum event, a homecoming and continuing education event attended by hundreds throughout the U.S. and internationally. Lyceum is held annually for three days, consisting of seminars, special events, and other programs. Over 800 individuals participated in this year’s event, held May 3-5 on the Sherman campus in Spartanburg. The college is proud to announce recipients of Sherman’s 13 prestigious Lyceum awards.

Javier Antonio Cruz Ortiz is the recipient of the 2024 Sherman College of Chiropractic Student Leader of the Year Award.

The Student of the Year is awarded to an exceptional student leader who has participated in recruiting activities that have led to the enrollment of students at Sherman College.

Ortiz is a dedicated 12th-quarter student at Sherman College, actively engaged in various leadership roles and extracurricular activities. Since his 5th quarter, he has demonstrated his commitment to the college community by serving as a student ambassador who actively promotes the college’s values and programs.

Throughout his tenure, Ortiz has played integral roles in seven Showcase Sherman events, highlighting his versatility by serving as team lead and, most recently, as the host for the entire weekend. His involvement extends beyond event coordination, as he has contributed his insights and leadership to the Health Center Advisory Committee and the Curriculum Review Committee, ensuring the continual improvement of academic and clinical programs.

In addition to his academic pursuits, Ortiz is an active member of student clubs, including the MLS Cub, Christian Chiropractic Club, Thompson Club, and, most recently, the Atlas Orthogonal Club. His diverse involvement reflects his passion for exploring different facets of chiropractic care and enhancing his professional skills.

Originally from Bayamón, Puerto Rico, Ortiz envisions giving back to his community by establishing a family-based practice upon his return in 2025. Javier is poised to make a meaningful impact in the chiropractic profession with his dedication to service, leadership, and academic excellence.
