This year for Thanksgiving I had the opportunity to spend an extra day at home. Unfortunately, it was because my oldest daughter Abigail had a temperature of 102°F. I believe that a fever is the body’s way of fighting an infection, and does not always need medicine. In chiropractic, we have a theory that the body if free of subluxation should be able to heal itself. Yes, there are always limits to this, and I am a strong believer that modern medicine has its place. But the more I study the body, the more I realize sometimes less is more. The MD gave my mom a prescription just in case, but Abigail did not want to take it. This got me thinking.
Children really are innately ADIO (above, down, inside, out). How many children want to take medicine? If you ask my daughter if she wants to take medicine she will slap her hand over her mouth and emphatically shake her head NO. The pharmacy now has the ability to flavor medicine. Walgreen’s offers 16 different flavors ranging from bubblegum, watermelon, even chocolate. Flovorx, the company that makes the flavors, even has a page on their website that lists the medicine and what flavor will best cover the taste.
As a parent, it can be hard to watch as your child is sick. You want to do anything to make them feel better. Sometimes that does mean giving them medicine but remember their body is wonderfully made.
