How do you stay connected to Sherman College? To stay connected, Lyceum was always my go-to. Now it is a bit easier as I am the Dean of Clinics at Sherman.
Most Memorable Classmate: My most memorable classmate was either Matt Course or
Loren Barisch.
Favorite Sherman College Instructor: My favorite instructor was either Dr. Decken or
Dr. Clayton.
Fun Memory: My first or second patient in the clinic was a big, burly truck driver type of person. He had a complaint of radiating thoracic pain. Being it was my first adjustment on him, I could only adjust C1 or C2 and it had to be a toggle. I adjusted his C2, and when he got off the table, he said, “What did you just do to me?” Then he started literally dancing in the room and said his pain was gone. What this taught me was that chiropractic works, the symptom is not the problem, and when innate intelligence can express itself without interference extraordinarily beautiful things will happen.
Favorite Lyceum Memory: Back in the days of Lyceum, one of the student jobs was to take vans to and from the airport, and I was able to drive and converse with Drs. Reggie and Irene Gold.
What has been the best improvement to Sherman you have seen since you were a student? I am not sure it is an improvement exactly, but the fact that it has not wavered from its mission of locating, analyzing, and correcting vertebral subluxations while teaching others to do so. That said, the campus renovations with amazing technologies and the Gelardi Student Center make this an incredibly functional space to learn and celebrate the philosophy, art, and science of chiropractic.
What would you like to see for Sherman College? In the next 50 years, I would like to see Sherman maintain the mission, and increase enrollment to ensure this is the most impactful place to not only learn chiropractic but also to teach it.
