Sherman Family Celebrates at Annual Thanksgiving Lunch

Chiropractic Student Government (CSG) and the Office of Student Affairs hosted the annual Thanksgiving lunch on November 21 for students, faculty, and staff. Sherman College is thankful for its students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends, and for the chiropractic profession! Check out the photo album on Facebook.
Everyone on campus enjoyed food from The Farmer’s Table (turkey and ham) and the Hub City Co-Op (all other items). CSG delivered extra food to the shelter at Spartanburg’s Safe Homes / Rape Crisis Coalition, which had just received two new families who were excited to share a Thanksgiving meal with others at the shelter.
“Sherman College prides itself on not only being the preeminent chiropractic college but also one that is student-focused and family oriented,” said CSG President Carolyn Oliveira. “Many students cannot travel home to spend Thanksgiving with their family, but Sherman gives us a home away from home. It’s comforting to sit with fellow students, faculty, and staff to enjoy a nice Thanksgiving meal. Sherman is family, and CSG, along with Student Affairs, is honored to put this lunch together for our students.”
The college’s annual Thanksgiving lunch is one of several traditions facilitated by CSG and Student Affairs. Although details for each event have been tweaked throughout the years to meet the needs of the campus, the spirit of community and unity for each event have stayed the same: creating a time for the entire campus community to come together, eat and unwind.
“Under the leadership of President Cordero, this is one of the ways we attempt to meet the college’s initiatives by showing our focus on student success,” said Assistant Dean of Student Affairs Michelle Schutrumpf of the event. “We acknowledge the sacrifices students make to obtain their education through Sherman College, and the stress they go through, both academic and personal. This lunch is a great opportunity for CSG and Student Affairs to provide for our students. We want students to be able to look back fondly at their time at Sherman and remember the family atmosphere that Sherman is known for.”
