College Employees Donate 40 Bags to Overflow Thanksgiving

With Thanksgiving around the corner, Sherman College employees were eager to help families in need have a happier holiday weekend by filling bags of groceries in partnership with the United Way of the Piedmont, First Baptist Spartanburg and Second Harvest.

Spartanburg’s Overflow Thanksgiving initiative provides boxes of nonperishable items to families to help them prepare a delicious Thanksgiving dinner. The filled tote bags also come with extra supplies to help feed children over the long holiday weekend.

College employees pulled together and filled 40 large tote bags to support this year’s Overflow Thanksgiving effort, an increase of 10 bags over last year’s effort. Bags included basic Thanksgiving staples as well as pantry extras like cereal and peanut butter.

Roberta Thomas, the college’s United Way campaign representative, coordinated the collection effort on campus. “It is heartwarming to see the response this year and the great camaraderie among the employees who filled bags as a team,” she said. “Service is part of the nature of chiropractic, and helping others is a passion of ours. Our employees are grateful for the opportunity to help our neighbors and our community with this program.”
