Making Holidays Merrier in the Community

While a holiday gathering itself is a simple gesture of employee appreciation, Sherman College also uses this event as an opportunity to help local families in need. This year, the Holiday Committee partnered with Tears of the Saints, Inc., to support a sock drive and fundraiser. Employees assisted by attending the Sherman College holiday party and bringing socks and monetary donations. College employees collected 753 pairs of socks and $115 for the organization.

Tears of the Saints co-founder Charles Rahynes was emotional as he received the college’s collections. “Your donations and gifts will prove to make a great difference in the Spartanburg homeless community,” he said. “There’s no doubt that the need is huge, but your organization has managed to impact this need in a great way.”

Tears of the Saints, Inc. (T.O.T.S.), is a 501(C)3 community service based non-profit corporation committed to helping homeless and low income families achieve lasting independence by finding temporary shelter, food, clothing and support services for families. The organization, established in 2009, serves as a liaison that works with other non-profit organizations, linking those in need with those who want to help. T.O.T.S. is not a religious organization but was founded on biblical principles.

Kimberley Fielder, D.C., ’06, helped coordinate the collection effort on campus. “The Sherman College family exudes positivity and giving,” she said. “It was an absolute honor to serve Tears of the Saints, Inc. I am convinced that when we work as a team, miracles happen.”
