Group of students studying for NBCE part 4 board reviewsI would like to start out by saying how glad I am to be a Sherman student. I spent a week in board review with students from different schools, and I can say with confidence I felt more prepared than many of them. I had always heard that Sherman students are good adjusters, but I did not understand what that meant until watching people from other schools practice set-ups. Value and trust the education you are receiving at Sherman.

The test is divided into two parts: x-ray and hands-on clinical.

First, my thoughts on x-ray: The terminology was the hardest part. We are taught buzz words for conditions but also learn the technical names. You will have CT and MRI; I was not prepared to have to look at 20+ slices of both. I was pleasantly surprised that the 2nd question with 10 detractors was broken into 2 questions with 5 detractors each. That is not a guarantee for every question, but when it does happen, it is nice.

Second, my thoughts on the hands-on clinical: You will have more than enough time in most stations. You cannot prepare for everything. I promise you there will be something you don’t know what they are asking. When that happens, take a deep breath and make something up. The examiners are told not to talk with you, so don’t think they are being rude when you finish your technique stations in 2 mins and have to sit in silence for 3 more mins. You will have an actor that forgets their lines or tells you something different than another test taker. Do your best with the information given. Smile and be polite.

I enjoyed seeing Davenport and spending some time with my fellow classmates. We spent most of the week in board review, but we did manage to visit B.J.’s house and tour the campus. We rented a townhouse for the week which was a nice option to be able to cook meals and have a little more space than a hotel room. I have to admit I am glad it is over…assuming I passed.
