For decades, Sherman College has provided students and members of the community with quality chiropractic care at its facilities. These facilities include the on-campus Chiropractic Clinic where Upstate South Carolina residents of all ages receive exemplary chiropractic care from instructor-supervised interns completing their doctor of chiropractic degree.
But before interns work with community members in the Health Center, they work with student and staff patients in the Student Clinic. This facility is students’ first introduction to the clinical experience. Investing in new equipment and expanding this student clinic makes good sense. Read on to learn more about Sherman’s renovation project and to find out how you can lend your support to such a worthy cause!
The Student Clinic is a specialized learning environment where skills gained in the classroom are practiced and honed under the guidance of health center faculty. It serves as a place of transition from classroom work to patient care and creates an environment for each student to develop an outpatient health center practice for the remainder of the program.
Sherman’s Dedication to Community Service
Community involvement is a very important part of the Sherman College experience. Every year, chiropractic students give back by participating in humanitarian efforts such as food drives, blood drives and more. You’ll find Sherman students giving educational talks at health fairs, volunteering at nursing homes, and getting involved in many other charitable activities.
At the heart of the college’s community involvement lies the Chiropractic Clinic at the Sherman College Health Center. For four decades, members of the community have been receiving affordable care from Sherman College doctor-supervised interns, and that experience is preceded by the Student Clinic experience. Not only does the clinic help these interns move on to the next phase of their chiropractic education, it also prepares them to enhance the health and well-being of the entire Spartanburg community as they move on to the outpatient health center.
Continuing Sherman’s Legacy of State-of-the-Art Care
Students embarking on their chiropractic careers graduate from Sherman College with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in the field. They complete rigorous coursework in a variety of subjects from chiropractic philosophy to anatomy to microbiology and spinal bio-dynamics. An essential complement to this extensive grounding, in theory, is the practical hands-on experience they gain at the Student Clinic. This is where students synthesize, apply and build on all they have learned and then move on to caring for diverse patients, using the latest technology, and becoming familiar with the logistics of running a practice.
What the New Facility Will Offer to Patients and Students Alike
Given the crucial role the Student Clinic plays in the training of students (and, later, the lives of the residents they will serve), Sherman College has made its renovation a top priority. Plans for this exciting renovation include
- All new adjusting tables to offer a consistent experience for the interns and student patients
- Two case-study learning areas where instructors can utilize our Apple technology teaching tools
- Titronics Instrumentation and Adjustment Simulators to hone adjusting skills
- A centralized faculty workstation to keep faculty accessible to interns as they learn
By continuing to improve its facilities and teaching, Sherman reaffirms its commitment to being a leading chiropractic college, and to continuing its legacy of helping both students and community members lead healthier, happier lives.
