Register Now for Lyceum 2022! Time is running out, so if you haven't already, now is the time to register for Lyceum 2022! This year's theme, Reconnect, is exactly what Lyceum weekend should be all about, and it's just what the profession needs right now. Attending remote and virtual events can't quite replicate the experience of an in-person event and face-to-face interaction, and Sherman College is here to meet that need for our alumni and chiropractic community.
Lyceum brings us together for fantastic continuing education, with plenty of fun and networking. Here are a few 2022 highlights:
Lyceum registration is still open, so get connected today!
Faculty Members Present at National Educational Technology Conference Four Sherman College faculty members have been selected to present their work on adapted teaching and learning approaches using technology at Online Learning Consortium’s Innovate 2022, a conference focused on online, digital, and blended learning.
Faculty members will present two in-person sessions at the conference in Dallas, TX, on April 12 and 14. Assistant Professor of Clinical Sciences Dr. Cindy Treharne and Assistant Professor of Clinical Sciences and Chair of the Business Department Dr. Heath Treharne will present “Zero to 100%: Taking a Small College Through the Online Transition” on April 12. Their presentation explores Sherman College’s 24-month journey from zero online learning presence to 100% remote learning during the early months of Covid-19. Drs. Cindy and Heath Treharne will discuss the challenges and discoveries the college made as it transformed its entire program into online learning modules, as well as how the experience changed how the faculty present concepts, assess outcomes, and engage students.
Director of the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning Dr. Billie Harrington and Dean of Clinical Sciences Dr. Armand Rossi will present “Don’t Throw Out the Baby with the ‘Pandemic’ Bathwater: Sustainability Strategies for Blended Instructional Practices in Response to Covid-19” on April 14. The onset of the pandemic thrust thousands of educational systems into unchartered waters and encouraged innovative non-traditional program delivery. Drs. Harrington and Rossi will focus on how institutions, historically averse to change, can develop strategies to sustain “what worked” during the pandemic in terms of blended teaching and learning.
College Publications, Communications Honored Sherman College earned first place in five categories of the 2021 Media Women of South Carolina (MWSC) Communications Contest, with two additional entries awarded second place. The contest, sponsored by the state affiliate of the National Federation of Press Women (NFPW), encourages and rewards excellence in communication. First-place award winners for South Carolina have now moved up to the national contest for judging. The college's first-place projects in the state included an admissions print piece exploring chiropractic career options, a series of sports-focused ads, an admissions webpage developed for high school students, the e-newsletter Sherman Shares, and a speech written for Lyceum 2021. Wise Scholars Seeks Endowment Thanks to a recently established scholarship fund, the legacy of long-time faculty member Dr. Leslie Wise will continue to impact students for years to come at Sherman College of Chiropractic.
Dr. Wise joined Sherman College in October 1974 and served in many roles during his 44 years at the college. He had taught or interacted with every student who walked the halls of Sherman College until his retirement in September 2018. Sadly, Dr. Wise passed away in December 2019. He is survived by his wife, Joy Gayler Wise, five children and seven grandchildren. In honor of their husband and father, the family created the Wise Scholars Endowment. "As a family, we knew that one way to honor Leslie's legacy was to establish a scholarship at Sherman College," shared Joy Gayler Wise. "We hope that the Wise Scholars Endowment will be impactful for students who demonstrate a commitment to service and leadership, traits that were hallmark of Leslie's life of service to Sherman College and the profession."
