Sherman Interns Help Local Athletes |
In order to be a top-performing athlete, your body must be working at its fullest potential. Sherman College has found the perfect local partner in Spartanburg Methodist College (SMC) to provide our students an opportunity to work with a college athletic program. Sherman College Health Center interns volunteer to provide pro-bono chiropractic care to SMC coaches, athletes, and athletic trainers. The initiative has seen significant growth in participation by both Sherman and SMC students since January 2023 and has led several athletes to consider a career in chiropractic, with one student planning to enroll in the Fall 2023 quarter.
Coach Aaron King, head coach of Men's and Women's Cross Country as well as Track and Field for SMC states, “Our teams appreciate that Sherman College is here consistently to get us aligned. As a coach, I saw more improvement from the athletes that were consistently being adjusted and personally, I have seen an improvement in my own body regarding injury prevention.” He went on to say, "SMC certainly sees this as an opportunity and advantage that we enjoy having over our competition." As our partnership with SMC continues to grow, we look forward to other doors opening in our community that will allow Sherman College students to experience various types of individuals they may be looking to serve once they enter practice. |

Sherman Surpasses Goal for a Great Cause
Sherman College partnered with Project R.E.S.T. during National Sexual Assault Awareness Month to participate in National Denim Day on April 26th. The initiative was a community-wide effort to bring awareness and encourage the prevention of sexual violence by wearing denim clothing. Students and employees are allowed to wear denim in lieu of our business casual dress code by making a $5 donation to Project R.E.S.T.. Last year, the college raised $732 and we're excited to report that the goal of surpassing that amount was achieved by raising $960 for 2023!
Project R.E.S.T. (Restore. Empower. Support. Transform.) is a local non-profit providing services to victims of domestic violence in Spartanburg, Cherokee, and Union Counties and victims of sexual assault in Spartanburg and Cherokee Counties. Their mission is to use their collective voice to address the impact of domestic and sexual violence by providing quality services to those affected and to create social change through education, training, and activism.
The story behind National Denim Day:
In 1999, an Italian Supreme Court overturned the conviction of a 45-year-old driving instructor for the rape of his 18-year-old student. The reason cited was the girl’s clothing. They determined that because the victim wore tight blue jeans, the man couldn’t have removed them without assistance, and therefore she must have consented. People everywhere were outraged, and within hours, prominent women in the community were walking the courthouse in blue jeans to protest the decision. Since that time, Denim Day was born.

| We Love Miss New Hampshire! |
We're thrilled to announce that Sherman College student Brooke Mills was crowned Miss New Hampshire on Saturday, April 29th. Brooke is a second generation chiropractor as her mother, Dr. Stephanie Foisy Mills, practices in Pembroke, NH. They are the first mother-daughter pair to both win Miss New Hampshire in the scholarship competition's history.
Sherman College is a sponsor of the Miss America Organization, offering full tuition scholarships to all 2023 state title holders who compete for the job of Miss America and Miss America's Outstanding Teen. We look forward to supporting Brooke as she vies for the title of Miss America this coming fall! | |
